Job Summary:
As a Department Operations Manager at Central Market, you will lead, inspire, and manage multiple departments spanning Non-Perishable, Perishable, and Food Service categories. You'll play a vital role in driving the success of production and sales operations while fostering an environment that delights Customers, supports Partners, and achieves company goals. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be the key driver in coordinating merchandising, team development, and operational excellence across diverse product lines including grocery, dairy, produce, meat, seafood, bakery, deli, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee daily operations across multiple departments, including Non-Perishable (grocery, dairy, frozen foods, bulk items), Perishable (produce, meat, seafood, floral), and Food Service (kitchen, cafe, bakery, deli, cooking school, cheese)
- Exercise independent judgment in critical business decisions related to staffing, discipline, promotions, and operational strategy
- Manage merchandising strategies, product mix, cost control, and ensure consistent adherence to company and regulatory standards for freshness, safety, refrigeration, and sanitation
- Supervise department managers, providing coaching, training, and performance evaluations to develop high-performing teams
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, communicating Central Market's expectations and standards effectively
- Conduct employment interviews and deliver constructive partner feedback to promote growth and retention
- Champion exceptional customer service and foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement
- Develop long-term strategic and financial plans that align with company objectives
- Utilize automated systems for inventory, food cost analysis, scheduling, and labor management to optimize operations
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 1-2 years experience in retail or food service management, with a strong track record in multi-department leadership
- Proficiency with inventory and labor management software and reporting systems
- Demonstrated ability to develop teams, manage multiple priorities, and delegate effectively
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to navigate stressful situations and make sound decisions under pressure
